YARAPA RIVER RAIN FOREST EXPEDITION

The Yarapa River, at about 4 hours travel from Iquitos, is known for its rich flora and fauna. We have added this exciting excursion to our itinerary, because it allows us to give you a full primary rainforest experience in half the time you would need elsewhere.

On your way by boat, while you cruise down four different rivers (the Marañon, the Amazon, the Ucayali and the Yarapa), dolphin spotting is guaranteed, and you will see many different species of birds and butterflies, even before you arrive at your destination!

The lodge is 100% community managed. Our jungle guide was born here and grew up on the Yarapa River. During your stay he will take you on exciting jungle expeditions, walking tours by day and by night, canoe trips, fishing for piranhas, and more. he has the sharpest eyes and ears and will help you spot a large variety of jungle animals, reptiles, insects and amphibians, while teaching you about medicinal plants and the traditional culture.

Itinerary

Duration: 3 days, 2 nights
A typical program would look something like this, but we are flexible and open to hear your special wishes and requests

DAY 1: Our guide will come and pick you up at the airport or hotel. (If you have a lot of luggage, we could store it at the Jimmy Jaguar Travel. That way you do not need to travel inside the rainforest with a lot of unnecessary stuff.)

Transfer from Iquitos to Nauta by car, about 2 hours
Brief orientation of Nauta city and some last minute shopping if needed
Boat ride down the rivers the Marañon, the Amazon, the Ucayali and the Yarapa, about 2 hours
Get settle at the lodge
Lunch
Excursion by boat up the Yarapa river to look for monkeys, slots, birds and other jungle dwellers
Excursion by boat on the rio Grande to look at the pink and grey dolphins who always is playing around in this area
Dinner
Night excursion by boat to look for caimans, nocturnal birds, frogs and snakes
Sleep at the lodge (optional: sleep in a tent inside the rainforest)

DAY 2:

Excursion by boat to see aquatic plants and a variety of other plants and animals
Breakfast
Jungle walk where the guide will show and explain different medicinal plants and show some basic survival techniques in the jungle
Lunch
Fishing for piranha and other species
Dinner
Night walk to look for tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, frogs, nocturnal birds and more

DAY 3:

Breakfast
Visit the monkey island
Village visit to learn about their local culture
Lunch
Return to Iquitos
