Duration: 4 days and 3 nights
Up to 3 weeks or more.
Transport from airport provided, followed by dinner and discussion of your program.
DAY 1:
We will enjoy a continental breakfast, city tour and then a visit to the Belen market. In the market, you will be able to see a multitude of medicinal plants and cures to treat every imaginable disease and illness.
We will then go to port and board our private boat. Then we will travel on the Amazon for about 4 to 5 hours before reaching the primary jungle. Upon arrival, we will set up camp, either with tents or by building our shelter. Afterward, we will take a short walk for acclimation, eat dinner and then go out for a night time canoe ride, spotting alligators, night birds and monkeys, all while enjoying an orchestra of insects.
DAY 2:
We will start our day with an early morning bird watching excursion before eating breakfast. After which we will head out for a piranha-fishing trip and return to eat lunch. Then we can all enjoy a relaxing trip by boat where we can swim with the famous gray and pink dolphins of the Amazon. After returning for dinner, our second night's excursion will be to spot tarantulas, scorpions and the large variety of snakes the jungle has to offer.
DAY 3:
After breakfast at camp, we will take a nature hike deeper into the jungle, to identify different varieties of medicinal, poisonous and hallucinogenic plants. We will also discuss the many different ways that these plants are used on a daily basis by locals and just how integral they are to their daily lives.
We will return for lunch and then in the afternoon, visit a river village to learn about and see, first-hand, their way of life.
DAY 4:
We will start our final day in the jungle with breakfast and then board our boat and enjoy a little morning exploration of the lakes. You will be able to observe one of the world's largest aquatic plants, the famous Victoria Water lily. These giant lilies sometimes grow up to seven feet across (or more than two meters).
We will then enjoy our lunch, prepared and served on the boat while making our way back to Iquitos.
You will return to Iquitos between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the late afternoon.
